British post-punk veterans 1919 release their brand new masterpiece of darkly melodic goth rock!
Though formed in 1980 and split in 1985, the band reformed in 2014 to great acclaim and numerous tours and festival appearances across Europe!
Futurecide is the group's first album recorded since the passing of founding guitarist Mark Tighe who insisted that the band carry on - which they have done in fine form!
The band will be heading to the US for a 3 week tour starting April 5!

La Peste - Better Off La Peste (1977-78)

Some pretty classic stuff on here, circa 1977-78. La Peste were legendary in Boston and "Better
Off Dead" cemented their status across the universe forever. This compilation is well done as well, the only weird part is in the Johnny Angel liner notes where he fantasizes that he was the band's first choice to replace Peter Dayton in 1979. Dude, that "angel dust" you're smoking (no relation, I'm sure) is heavy stuff, you might to lay off for awhile... "La Peste were one of the first, one of the more abrasive and the most musically advanced of Boston's original '70s punk banks. They made one of the first great Boston punk singles, 'Better Off Dead,' well known among the 'Killed By Death' crowd. Better Off La Peste contains tons of never-before released tracks and is completely different from the horrible quality bootleg of years ago and is for the most part different from the long out of print Matador LP from the '90s. This album fits like a glove next to the Bacchus Archives East Coast reissues by The Thrills and The Rattlers, along with our mondo early LA punk reissue catalog. On songs like 'Don't Wanna Die in My Sleep Tonight' and the evergreen classic 'Better Off Dead,' the band honed a dense, edgy three-piece sound that belied the sparse instrumentation creating it. They were masters of the subtle, repeating riff and the open string drone, marking the path followed -- in different ways -- by bands like U2, The Smiths and Husker Du. La Peste songs were often filmic, and they could sway lyrically from the film noir to quickie power pop confessionals. During the years they spent in Boston, La Peste were one of the most popular and critically loved groups on the scene, and their live shows never failed to generate real excitement, a sense that this was an event you were witnessing. The Defects - The Defects 1979-1984 (2010)

The Defects are a punk rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The band formed in 1978 with a lineup of Ian "Buck" Murdock (vocals), Marcus "Dukie" Duke (guitar), Jeff Gilmore (bass) and Glenn Kingsmore (drums).

After playing locally, they recorded their first demo, but when this failed to gain them a record deal, they started their own Casualty Records label and issued their debut 7", "Dance (Until You Drop)". The three-song EP sold all 2,000 copies and brought the band to the attention of the UK music press. Melody Maker journalist Carol Clerk befriended the band and recommended them to John Curd, manager of WXYZ Records, who signed them to his label. Gary Smith replaced Fenton on bass, and the Defects moved to London in 1982 and embarked on the six-week "So What" UK tour with labelmates the Anti-Nowhere League, Chelsea and Chron Gen. The tour was filmed by Stewart Copeland (with backing from brother Miles) and intended for cinema release, but it was never issued.

A second single, "Survival", was issued in 1982, reaching No. 8 in the UK Indie Chart. The band released their debut album, Defective Breakdown, in 1982.

With Curd looking for ways to gain crossover success for the bands on his label, he persuaded the Defects to record a cover version of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds" with producer Ray Shulman on keyboards. The single's release in early 1984 coincided with the decline in popularity of second-wave punk, and did not sell well. With control of the band's destiny slipping away, Murdock left after the release of "Suspicious Minds". The band continued, playing a gig supporting 999 with Kingsmore on vocals, before Murdock rejoined to play in support of the Clash in Belfast. The band then permanently split, with all members returning to Belfast except Duke, who stayed in London. Kingsmore joined Western Justice with former members of Rabies, including Murdock's brother Gary, and was later a member of Ashanti.

Murdock revived the Defects name in 1996 for a one-off performance at a punk festival at the Bath Pavilion, which was filmed and released on video by Barn End Video as Live at the Pavilion 12.10.96. He later started the punk and ska covers band Doghouse.

The Defects reformed again in 2010 and played various punk festivals. Added to the lineup were Roy McAllister and Aidy "Fudge" Dunlop (replacing Smith and Duke). In 2012, they toured Australia, followed by appearances at the Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Since 2014, Duke occasionally joins them on stage for some of their best known songs.

Dif Juz were an English instrumental post-punk band, formed in London in 1980 and remaining active until 1986. The band comprised Dave Curtis (guitar), Alan Curtis (guitar), Gary Bromley (bass guitar) and Richard Thomas (percussion and saxophone).

Out Of The Trees - it's a compilation of the "Huremics" and "Vibrating Air" two first EPs, with the latter being remixed to pointless effect. Great post-punk mixture of reggae and jazz

Twice a Man - The Sound of a Goat in a Room (1983)

Excellent second album of dark, experimental, synth-based new wave from this longstanding Swedish duo. Some songs are ready for a goth night dance floor, but most are better suited for solitary drug use.

Oppenheimer Analysis - New Mexico (1982)

Truly phenomenal English synthpop/minimal wave. Really, some of the best of its kind. For fans of minimal wave and DIY electronic pop.

Oppenheimer Analysis formed in London, England in 1982 by Andy Oppenheimer and Martin Lloyd. Their first meeting though was at the 1979 World Science Fiction Convention in Brighton. They quickly became good friends, sharing an interest in the work of David Bowie, electronic music and early synthesizer bands such as the Human League and Soft Cell. They also shared a love of old science fiction movies, 1950s graphics and comic book imagery and a fascination with post-World War II propaganda, the politics and aesthetics of the Cold War, and the social impact of the atomic bomb. Over the next few years Andy and Martin frequented the growing club scene, including Studio 21 on Oxford Street, and became involved in the developing Futurist and New Romantic style sub-cultures. During this period Martin recorded as Analysis, both alone and with David Rome of Drinking Electricity. They released their first single, “Surface Tension/Connections” on David’s Survival label in 1981. In 1982, Oppenheimer Analysis began writing and recording together at Feedback Studio in Battersea, and performed several times at The Bell, Islington, the 1983 World David Bowie Convention in Hammersmith, the Starzone Birthday Party at Camden Palace, the 1984 European Science Fiction Convention in Brighton and other live venues. Their first demo tape and twelve song “New Mexico” cassette were sold at gigs and by mail-order, and were reviewed in Melody Maker, Sounds and Soundmaker. For the years to follow, Oppenheimer Analysis became recognized among electro-music aficionados as a pioneering duo who influenced countless other bands during the club and home-recording era of the early 1980s and beyond. Their cassettes became massively collectible. In 2005 they re-formed with the release of a self-titled four song 12” EP of selections from the New Mexico cassette, including “Cold War” and “The Devil’s Dancers”.
